Saint Gobain concrete 3D house © Bart van Overbeeke
It’s a house almost like any other. Entirely made of 3D printed concrete, this house is the first of its kind. Zoom in pictures on an original building and an extraordinary construction.
Residents of this detached house entirely made of 3D printed concrete were given the keys to their new home on April 30. Designed by Saint-Gobain, this building, located in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, was designed in the shape of a rock. An astonishing construction, which has a particularity: it is, according to Saint-Gobain, “the first detached house in the world made entirely of 3D printed concrete”. For an area of 94 m2, it consists of 24 concrete elements, printed layer by layer at the factory. These were then transported by truck to the site for assembly. High-performance insulation has been added to ensure the comfort of its occupants and make the house energy efficient. The Dutch subsidiary Saint Gobain Weber Beamix has developed special high-tech mortars that can be used in 3D printing. The printing technique was developed in cooperation with Witteveen + Bos, a consulting and engineering company. The construction and innovation of this project were jointly thought out by the Saint-Gobain subsidiary, but also the Eindhoven University of Technology and the municipality of the same name.
