This apartment, located on the garden level, has gained an additional room thanks to a very clever plan which has made it possible to optimize the smallest centimeter. More comfortable, more functional, it has also gained in character thanks to a very subtle decoration.

So that each of their two children can have their own bedroom, the owners of this apartment are looking for a new, bigger home. However, they struggled to bring themselves to pack their boxes, because moving also meant give up the little garden that they had. So they finally decided to redevelop their 52 m2 in order to create an additional sleeping area. The couple entrusted their project to interior designer and decorator Catherine Bouvier-Auffray, from the Bulles & Sharpener studio, who did much more: she completely redesigned the premises. She indeed imagined a clever plan, which made it possible to reorganize the whole apartment. “There are things they had not considered, such as moving the kitchen for example. Today they have a real living room, more spacious and very bright, which changes everything” she tells us. Thanks to many tailor-made arrangements, the entire apartment has gained in comfort and functionality. The interior designer has rearranged everything arounda central space, like a bubble of tranquility, where she arranged the parents’ bedroom. “The difficulty was to find all these centimeters and to make sure that there would be no lag when the time came”. The result, millimeter, is amazing and highlighted by a decoration full of softness that catches the light. Visit in pictures.

To be able to create an additional room, Catherine Bouvier-Auffray has reorganized the apartment as a whole. “The old kitchen has become the little boy’s room, and the parents’ room that of the little girl” she explains to us. “All the living rooms have been fitted out on the garden side”. The kitchen is now an integral part of the living room, which seems larger, and the couple have a small private cocoon installed in the heart of the accommodation thanks to a plan of great precision. “Everything has been mapped out to the nearest centimeter!” confirms the interior designer. “Each room had its constraints, in particular it was necessary to ensure that each space has a door and an access”.

The new kitchen has been fitted out in the corner of the room and opens directly onto the living room. A central island completes the layout and offers a real dining area. To create perspective and diffuse the light, Catherine Bouvier-Auffray installed a mirror as a credenza. A trick that can be found everywhere in the apartment and which is perfectly illusory.

More than a sleeping area, Catherine Bouvier-Auffray has managed to create a real bedroom, an additional room in the heart of the apartment. “The parents’ room has been fitted out in a sort of small cube seen as a cocoon”. Here again, everything has been measured and made to measure, right down to the lighting and decoration.

Because every inch was counted, the interior designer optimized every space. She designed a personalized headboard, with made-to-measure storage, hemmed in the same blue as the kitchen island.

To enlarge the perspective, and bring more light into the room, Catherine Bouvier-Auffray has also installed a vertical mirror. A very effective trompe-l’oeil, which gives depth to the bedroom.

Despite a reduced area to a minimum, the interior designer has everything planned, including a large walk-in closet. “Here again, everything has been adjusted to the millimeter to fit the cabinets” she emphasizes.

In the living room, the lounge area has also been completely redesigned. The interior designer leaned on the partition to have made-to-measure storage, with a TV cabinet and a bookcase.

“The opening onto the garden was an important parameter. We therefore made sure to make the most of the light” indicates Catherine Bouvier-Auffray. To take advantage of this advantage, she worked on a soft atmosphere, which gives pride of place to light colors, enhanced here and there with more intense blue.

To delimit the small entrance without closing the volumes, a glass roof has been installed. “This allows us to script the space. It also allowed us to install a shoe cabinet” specifies the interior designer. “The corridor is also signified over the entire length by a false ceiling inlaid with small spots”. There is also a large mirror which, again, creates an impression of depth.

As an extension of the entrance, the corridor leads to the children’s bedrooms, as well as the bathroom. If this room has not undergone radical transformation, a small laundry area has nevertheless been added. “We had to create a small overflow on the corridor side to accommodate the washing machine. We used it to fit out a shelf, like a console”.

The children’s bedrooms have also been redesigned to optimize space. Bespoke desks and storage have been created in both, with personalized colors so that everyone has their own space.
