Every year for ten years, the A + Awards have rewarded the most beautiful architectural projects around the world. As the new edition launches its call for nominations, we take a look back at some of the winners awarded in 2021.
Creation, innovation, inspiration. Launched 10 years ago by Architizer, the international platform dedicated to architecture, the A + Awards each year reward the best projects and the most beautiful constructions erected in the four corners of the planet. Their primary mission: highlight the designers who are shaping the architecture of tomorrow. To celebrate this anniversary, the 10th edition of this prestigious award has been enlarged with the opening of many new categories, which allow in particular to present renovation projects, or even experimental design projects. Faithful to its values, the competition remains attached to its mode of operation, in particular to the democratic and popular judgment process, thus underlining the direct impact of the work of architects on the life and daily life of individuals. The public is therefore invited, alongside a jury of professionals (made up of more than 250 personalities from many fields, architecture, design, arts, technology, media, business …), to express themselves and vote in each of the 119 categories. Of the 5,000 projects in competition, the previous edition had recorded more than 400,000 votes from more than 100 different countries. This 10th edition is also an opportunity to compile a souvenir album ofe this competition, which made it possible to put in the spotlight all kinds of projects, but alsodraw attention to the challenges of tomorrow. “This prize is an opportunity to share significant innovations that bring about change, so that we can continue to design ever better projects, for the planet and its inhabitants” said Michael Green, founder of the agency Michael Green Architecture, winner 2020 in the category Best architectural firm in North America. While waiting for the winners of this anniversary edition, which will be unveiled in June 2022, Here is a small overview, not exhaustive, of some of the projects, unusual, inspiring, even breathtaking, awarded in 2021.
