Tarnished by the years, this Parisian apartment needed to be dusted off. Renovated from floor to ceiling, and skilfully modernized, it has regained its luster and gained in comfort. Zoom on a tailor-made renovation project.
Located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, this beautiful 55 m2 apartment had no not renovated for a long time. The paintings had had their day, the floors were tired and the facilities dilapidated. Although it still had the charm of the Haussmannian, it was also sorely lacking in functionality. “The apartment had one major drawback: there was hardly any closet“ says interior designer and decorator Delphine Gaillard. From the living room to the bedroom, including the kitchen and the bathroom, all the rooms have been refreshed and redesigned. Everywhere, space has been optimized thanks to tailor-made arrangements which have made it possible to create storage that is as practical as it is aesthetic. Delphine Gaillard also highlighted the old character of the apartment, while infusing it with a more up-to-date spirit thanks to a few well-chosen decorative elements. Cleverly modernized, the accommodation has become more comfortable. The interior designer has taken care to preserve his soul and his identity and to enhance it. Visits in pictures.

Dirty and faded paints, worn floors, dilapidated installations … The apartment was in need of a real makeover. “It was in its original condition! The apartment had not been renovated for a long time and was in poor condition” Delphine Gaillard confirms to us. “The difficulty in the living room is that nothing is centered, it was difficult to place things. The decoration was therefore off-center. We positioned ourselves in relation to the middle of the wall and not in relation to the fireplace” she indicates.

Expertly enhanced, the living room has regained its cachet. The ceilings and their moldings have been renovated, and the old parquet floors restored. The walls have been dressed with a fresh coat of paint which highlights the brightness of the room. “We also brought a little contrast with a black wall, a decorative effect that brings a little more contemporary touch” underlines Delphine Gaillard.

Creating storage was one of the priorities in this apartment. Here and there, the interior designer relied on the existing to fit out cupboards and other libraries. To the right of the fireplace, the shelving located in the corner has been optimized and highlighted by a black hem and a strip of wallpaper. “On the other side, a semi-made-to-measure cabinet has been installed so that the owner can put down his turntables and store his records”.

The dining room has also been elegantly renovated. As in the living room, Delphine Gaillard transformed an alcove into a bookcase, which she, in the same way, underlined in black and dressed in wallpaper. The furniture is a subtle mix of design elements and more artisanal ones. “The large table, for example, was made by my client’s daddy” specifies the decorator.

Like the other rooms, the kitchen needed to be redesigned and optimized. “The kitchen needed a refresh. The owners also wanted to enhance the worktop and add some color. They liked the harmonies of blue and green.” details the interior designer.

If Delphine Gaillard has kept the same layout, space has been optimized and the kitchen has gained in comfort and functionality. The room also displays a more current look. “We put the accent on beautiful materials. The worktop and the niche are in solid wood, we put zelliges on the splashback, cement tiles on the floor …” Precise work to ensure that everything is right.

Like the other rooms, the bedroom looked tired and in dire need of a refresh. It also had a closet, but with a depth of only 12 inches, it was impractical. Delphine Gaillard therefore designed new arrangements. “The cupboards were enlarged to 60 cm on each side, which made it possible to create a headboard” she explains.

Here too, the interior designer has taken care of the details: thanks to the enlargement of the cupboards, it has managed to integrate a small niche on each side of the bed which serves as a bedside.

The small bathroom was also in need of a makeover. The interior designer even managed to make the room slightly larger. “The partition was moved to be able to integrate the water heater located in the hallway at the entrance to the bathroom. It was hidden in a cupboard.”

It is the perfect place to distill a touch of fantasy in your decor. Dressed in a plant-print wallpaper full of character, the toilets have a real personality. “Initially my client wanted to put this wallpaper in the bedroom. I advised her to opt for something less marked, but it is very good to give style to this room because there is less risk of getting bored of it. “ indicates Delphine Gaillard. Another original element: the bowl incorporates a small hand basin. Convenient when you lack space to install one.
