Like a river above the clouds … In London, a floating swimming pool that connects the towers of the five-star Embassy Gardens complex will open on May 19. Hanging 35 meters high, this 14-meter-long basin was designed by the engineering company Eckersley O’Callaghan and the firm HAL Architects. With a depth of three meters, the frame 20 to 30 centimeters thick was designed in acrylic. A necessity to allow the total transparency of part of the basin. To do this, the architectural firm called on acrylic manufacturing expert Reynolds Polymer Technology. This floating bridge has obviously been designed to resist the action of the wind as well as the weight of the water.

This “sky pool“heated offers a stunning view of the British capital, between the London Eye wheel, the river and the Parliament. Only members of the Eagle Club, a social center reserved for residents of Embassy Gardens, will have the right to access this suspended paradise.

The project was sketched in 2013, when the EcoWorld Ballymore group wanted to design a heated outdoor swimming pool. Problem: his residential complex cannot accommodate the pool, due to lack of space. The idea then germinated to build a suspended swimming pool that would connect the two towers.

The bridge was designed in Colorado, USA, and has traveled thousands of miles by sea and air to London. It was then put in place by a crane in its steel frame. When full, the pool weighs around 350 tonnes, according to a press release from the architects. The space will also host bars, restaurants and shops. The official opening of the pool will be hosted by the Aquabatix synchronized swimming team, who will perform.
